Grade 10/Term 2

21/09/10, Tuesday
Today we discuss about what we will do in term 2 with the booklet that Mr. Heryy gave us in term 1. After that we were asked about the topics and were asked. I was asked a question and fortunately i was listening and so i can answer it correctly. Then he gave us our MDB score and i got perfect which is great, so i wrote it on my journal. We were then divided into groups to sing a western song for assessment. Mr. Herry also prepared us and reviewed us on our theory skill for the written assessment which is major 7, chords, dominant and scales. Then he gave us some HW, we should make C-B dominant 7. I did great but i will need to review it more, so that i could get a better understanding on the topic.
In practical class we just watch Mr. Herry played the piano major 7 from C-B. It was an example for our HW next time. So, next time we need to be able to play it and i will practice it at home, because we didn't got the chance to play it in class because of the time is not enough.

24/09/10, Friday
Today in theory class, we were told to sit in our singing groups and came out with 2 alternatives song to sing for next week's assessment. Our group discusses and agree with "somewhere out there" and you're the music in me". However, we may change the song and discuss how we will sing it too. After that mr. Herry gave us a theory notation quiz. It was easy because it was just kind of like a revision that i had learn last time, and i got perfect which is good. However, i will still need to review on the scales, sharps and the formula to be able to solve dominant 7, etc, so that i will not forget it.
In instrument class, I played C and D major 7. It was supposed to be C-B, but because i can't do it perfectly and still new about it, i could only play that much. So at home i will need to practice it more, so that in the next class i could play C-B major 7 correctly and fluently.

28/09/10, Tuesday
Today we had our notation or theory assessment about scales, dominant 7, and major 7 and were told to write our reflection about it at the back. The assessment or test was quite easy because in the past we had reviewed it every theory class, and did similar exercises like the assessment we did in the past. So i am quite confident about the result, because in the past i got good mark for these things. However, i still need to further my knowledge about music theory because these things are just the basics, i will study more regarding music theory and scales.
In the instrument class, i were reviewed for playing major 7, i played C-G major 7 carefully and focusely. However, there were a lot of mistakes and i did not remember the sharps or the flats that should be played, also its fingering. So i will practice major 7 more, and next time i will play C-B major 7, so i need to practice those too.

1/10/10, Friday
Today in music class we were given some time to practice our song for the assessment. It was hard to combine the sound and to divide our voices to have variations, to organize ourself. Thankfully, Mr. Herry helped us a little with it. After that we did our rehearsal for the performance, it was kind of horrible and are not organized at all, just because of the backgroound song we were able to perform quite nicely, it helped us out a lot. Then we were told to play hom pi pah game, i won first, and our group could choose one supervisor to help us to learn the song, we chose mr Hary. The singing assessment were also changed in date, because most of us arent prepared. We need to choose a good time to practice together, and practice more at home. So that our next performance will be better.
In instrument class, it were changed to practiced our own songs for the singing assessment in our group. There were not enough time, but we managed to sang a little and did some singing warm up. Next time, we need to be more prepared and so we will need to practice more, and divide the voices.

5 Oct'10, Tuesday
Today we were given sometime to practice our assessment song for rehearsal, which is Imagine. With our supervisor, we practice for about 10-16 minutes and we were given some advices from him. After getting the advices we practiced on our own and did the rehearsal. We are group number 3, so we had sometime to watch other's rehearsal and class D,E,F assessment's videos. During the rehearsal our voices can't be heard clearly and it was kind of out of tone, our sound did not connect. We need to practice more together to unite our song. We didn't had sometime for practical class because there was no time.

8 Oct'10, Friday
Today is our class's group singing assessment. We all had been practicing hard and memorised our song. However, mr. Herry teached us how to compose a song first with chords and showed us some examples and also told us to try to make some, because i didnt really know so i just did it randomly and im sure it'll come out quite bad, i am lucky that he didn't choose my composition as an example. We were also reviewed about major and dominant 7 there because the chords need to have these as its basic. After that we did our singing assessment, my group did quite well, however, during the singing, my friend's microphone was not working well that made her sound to be not clear and it is kind of bad. But overall we did well and had some variations, mix and difference to the original song which is good. Still i will practice more about songs, to know the pitch tone and we need to practice harder than this.

12 Oct'10, Tuesday
Today Michelle was the one to check our attendance. The last group haven't perform and haven't prepared too. So, Jacintha a classmate of mine performed her song piece to get her ready for the Binus Piano Competition on Saturday. It was soothing. After she finishes, the last group presented their piece "We are the champion" for their singing assessment. Mr. Herry then told each of the group representatice to wrote their HW about the song composition in front, and i was one of them. He played each of our composition, I choose R and B with a funky tune to it, it was kind of good. He explains us to write the notes for the chord as our next HW. So i will upgrade my song composition for Friday.
In the instrument classm we were told about broken chords left hand to prepare us to play our composition. We were told to practice and try it infront, but first we need to write it down in our music book. I didnt had the chance to practice it in the instrument class due to the time, so i will practice it at home.

15 Oct'10, Friday
Today Mr. Herry told us about how to compose a song with chords, and the pattern to compose a good song which A, A', B, A'. After that I compose a song with only chords again with the pattern, then the teacher checked our song and he told me it was kind of too simple. So i will need to re-do and add something else to the song at home. I will improve my composition.
In the instrument class, we were told to play the broken chords he told us about. Since the time is not enough i were only able to play until D major. So for the rest, i will need to practice it at home so that i will be able to play it next time.

19 Oct'10, Tuesday
Today Mr Herrt teaches us about minor scales. He compares minor and major scales and then test us on our hearing skills in guessing which one is minor and which one is major scale. Some of us the scales questions infront for the answer, i was not one of them so i just watch it carefully, and i understood it. He also gave us some HWs to do which is the composition for our assessment and to buy the finale CD. I need to buy the CD and do the scales HW.
During the instrument class, i practiced the broken chords from C-B major. I did it quite good buy i havent memorise the chords pattern and because of that i need to practice it more slowly to be able to play it faster and more accurate

22 Oct'10 Friday
In theory class we didnt do much. We were reviewed about what we learned in Tuesday and were asked about it in class. I could answer it gbut it took quite long. After that Mr Herry checked out HWs about the melody and scales. When he already check all of our HW which i did quite well. He then told us about our Finale HW and project, He showed us how to create the composition using Finale software. Also, he gave us HW to compose the minor one. We didnt have any instrument class because there is not enough time so we need to practice our instruments at home

26 Oct'10, Tuesday
Today we were given our test scores from the theory assessment. I was really happy because i got a perfect score in that test. We were given back and were told for our parents to sign it and give it back later as a HW. After that Mr Herry told us and explaing about some problems that we usually encounter when making the finale, because most of us didn't finish and submit our finale today. I didn't and i was planning to make it tommorow during snack and after school, to do the finale. Mr Herry also reviewed us about minor scales for Friday, he also checked our HW and play each of our composition in front. I was quite happy with my work but i want to improve it because at that time i didn't really focus on the chords and was just pick up some chords. I could do the minor scales revision because i had learn it before.
In the instrument class i played E minor harmonic and melodic. It was quite hard and at that time i was flu so i just play one scale. I need to practice more and try to memorise where's the sharp or flats so that i could able to play it smoothly and i need to rest more.

29 Oct'10, Friday
In this Friday, we were given 10 minutes to review our past lessons on minor scales to do some quiz on it. We also handed in our past major scales quiz that we brought home for our parents signature. After we did the quiz, i think i did quite well because i had reviewed it and had learn it in the past. Mr Herry also helped us by doing the major scales on the test. I was really happy when Mr Herry said i had no mistakes, because in the past i usually had some kind of silly mistakes, but at that time i recheck again and again so that i could get 100. Then we were told about our HW for the finale, we were told to make a 32 bars of composition from the 16 bars. The pattern is a a' b a' like last time. So i need to update my composition and renew it. Lastly, we listen to Anthony's group late assessment.
During practical class I played my melody composition of 16 bars. I did it quite well. However i need to add more notes and variation for the 32 bars on Tuesday. I also want to renew and edit my composition by listening to my piano play of the melody.

Piano practice, week 4

This is when i am playing the scales from C-B major, before playing my Sonate. There is some stops and wrongs during playing it. I also played the contrary for 1 octave. It was quite good and i remembered all the sharps and flats unlike usual. However, i can be better and i will practice more so that there will be no stops during the playing.

This is when i played my Sonate in G major. I played this everyday for my assessment this Friday. It was quite okay, but the tempo and the notes are kind of sloppy, there were wrong notes and the tempo was not stable, there were no real dinamic/tune. That is why i need to practice this more and i will practice it everyday, so that in Friday i can reach a good mark.

In this video, i played the scales from c-b, but not in contrary form because i wanted to improve my reading and practice my hands with the sharps and flats in each scales. I did it quite well but to improve more i need to practice it everyday.

This video of me is when i am playing and practicing my sonata for the assessment. It was quite okay but the tempo and the trinidad is not really good so i need to practice it some more to be more fluent.

Week 2

In this video i played A major scale because the teacher told me that i need to practice it more, because i played that scale badly at the lesson and it is not fluent. So i practiced it with the contrary. I also played my song for my next assessment, sonate in G by Haydn. However, my play for that song is not really fluent too and there's also mistakes. So i need to practice it more

In this video below, i also played my A major scale and my song for the assessment in September. I played the A major scale quite well but not for the song. Mr Herry told me that i need to play it more smoothly and richer like in churches. Because this song is dedicated for God. Maybe u will listened to songs in youtube of chuuches and try to listened to Sonate in G by Haydn if there is any, to improve my dinamic. I also need to practice it more for further fluency.

Piano practice '10

1st Week Videos

This is my first piano video that i recorded. In this video i played the major scales from C-B. I was having some troubles with it and some of the scales were repeated and there were some stops because i am not really fluent in playing it and i need some more practice on the scales. Sometimes i also forgot what notes that is sharped and is flated, so i need my book and then read it for a while that made the stops in between. So i will need some more practice on my scales, especially the contrary

Below, is my second video when i was trying to play my piece for my next assessment which is playing the piano in front of the class. I was playing Sonate in G Hoboken XVI:GI by Haydn, that i was told to bring. There was quite a lot of mistakes when playing it so i will need to practice more on it. However, i need the approval from my teacher before really playing this piece for my assessment.

This Tuesday Mr.Herry introduced to me and the others especially the new students to the rules and regulations that is to be expected in this semester from the teacher. In the two session what we did is actually just an introduction to the music class for the new students and to review our previous teachings from grade 9. Today we haven't have any instrument class because we haven't choose what we will want to play/our instrument. However, we were given a piece of paper to choose our instrument to learn, and of course i choose piano. When it is written on the board the people that chooses piano and guitar is too much, so we were told to do an audition, to eliminate and move some of the students to other instruments. I feel uncomfortable and was nervous about it because at that time i didn't know what to play if i was asked. Fortunately, Mr. Herry just asked us some question , i can do it and were quite confident and then we went on to the hearing test and i am bad at it. Even though i've practiced do re mi fa sol la si do at home, and it was really a part for me to master since in my music school i was test on it too, but i just cant seem to do it right. Maybe it was because i didn't practice the piano everyday or enough. So i was really nervous about it, but i can do it a little somehow. However, we were told to prepare a song for next session to perform for the last test of the audition. I was not really nervous about it. But, i will practice my piano skills and the song that i have decided to play, also to practice my hearing skill more.

Friday, 23 July'10

Today we were given our learning plan and booklet for this semester. We discuss the booklet throughly and were asked the criterias one by one, i can do it because i've tried to memories it before it was my turn so it was okay. It was announced that two of our friends moved to art class, and one of them chooses piano for their instrument. Therefore, the piano instrument class was reduced and it was perfect, no overload again, so we the piano class are excused from the audition. It was really lucky of us since we don't need to be so nervous anymore about the elimination. Before the audition starts Mr. Herry decided that he was going to make a promotion for the violins and woodwind class. And so, Mr. Sadrakh and Mr. Harry performed they're instruments, it was brilliant and really promoting but i want to focus on my piano since i was already having a hard time to practice it so im not going to move, i think the others thought so too, so none of them move either. With that, the audition begins and i listened to them one by one, each of them performed they're best and it was good. However the elimination have to go, i was kind of sorry for the one that should move but i think they also felt that they wanted to try other types of instruments, so it was okay. It was also announced that in Friday next week, we were going to have to choose a western song and perform it. After listening to the audition though, i realized that i need to practice more, and i will. We, the piano class were given a homework to practice c-b scales for the next lesson, so i will practice that.

Tuesday, 27 July'10

Today we hear the song of 'Always on My Mind' by Michael Buble and 'Heal the World' by Michael Jackson. It was then announced that we can choose those two songs too and it was recommended. I wanted to try something else though since there are a lot more beautiful songs and i've sang 'Heal the World' last year in a duet. After that we heard Mr. Herry sang 'Always on My Mind' to show us how to sing it since its new. But i am not interested in singing a slow song so if im going to choose between the two i will choose 'Heal the World'. We were then given some scale exercises for some minutes and it was really easy since i have learned it before. Then we sang 'Always on My Mind' per-group instruments and it was okay. However, i will practice and hear the song more to memorize it and get a good mark on my assessment if later on i want to sing it.

We have our instrument class today, and each of played the scales from c-b major. I didn't play really fluently and did some mistakes while playing it. So, i need to practice harder and add on the contra for my scales to practice and move on to the next level. On Friday later we are going to have our rehearsal for our songs, so i will practice on it too.

Friday, 30 July'10

Today we were asked about the blog that we should make and discuss on it. We were told to send our blog URL to Mr. Herry, and i haven't done that yet so i need to send it later on the weekend, but i have told Mr. Herry before that i am going to use my old blog from grade 9. After that he discuss about the blog and its reflection that we should make also our practicing video, twice a week to be putted on the blog. Then we discuss and review the criteria we were told before and were asked one by one again, i was not asked though. Mr. Herry also asked us about what we were going to sing for the singing assessment and put it on a list in Microsoft Word. At that time i decided that i was going to sing 'Heal the World', since it is quite easy and i am already familiar with it. After being asked we did the singing rehearsal, i heard everyone sang quite well for the first time and they were nervous. When it was my turn i was also really nervous and i was shivering a lot so my voice quiver and shivers but my friend told me it was good, but later on i will need to be more confident and take a deep breath before singing. I sang it by looking in the lyrics so i will have to memorize the lyrics to get extra mark. And today because the time was not enough we didn't have the instrument class but i still need to practice on the scales at home and update my blog.

Today is our first singing assessment. Mr. Herry asked us the songs we was going to sing again and i said i am going to sing "Heal the World" for my choice. I sang the song today, it was really tense. I was very nervous when singing it in front of my friends, singing in front of my friends and at school seems to be more tensed than singing in front of strangers. When i was singing it i shivered and my voice shivered to and vibrated, my friend told me it was cool though, but because of that i got my point reduce. However, I got the pitch and the harmony correctly and i was able to memorize the lyrics, so i got 8 out of 10. It is quite satisfying, but i wanted to get 10 or 9 at that time and later on. For that, in my next singing assessment i will try to be more confident by practicing the song more and listening to the music. Also memorizing the song permanently so i would be confident not to forget the lyrics unlike this time i'm afraid to forget it. Today we also didn't get our chance to have our instrument class because of the time so i will practice the scales at home.

Today the singing assessment continued but before that we were divided into 5 groups. There are 3 groups that will have only 3 members and 2 groups with 4 members. My group has only 3 members, but it is okay. Which are Daniel and Ardhito. After that we need to choose our music genre to be investigated and presented in power point. I became the first one to choose because i won the 'Hom Pi Pah" first. We choose Popular music genre as our topic this term. For this assessment we were given 2 weeks to make the powerpoint presentation, but before that we need to research and make a draft to show it to Mr. Herry. After that the singing assessments continued. With that in mind, for the next music class i will need to prepare a draft for my group powerpoint slide presentation.
In the instrument class, we only had 6 more minutes left because of the assessments going on. So we don't have much time and i dont get the chance to practice. Only some of friend who got the chance to play the scales and so i listened to them, because of that next time i will need to practice the scales on my self.

Tuesday, 10 Aug'10

This Tuesday, before going in to the class, we were checked by the class and vice class captain about our uniforms. And then we sat with our investigation or powerpoint slide presentation group, which is Ardhito and Daniel. Mr. Herry gave us a white poster paper. As a group we were told to list down our outline for the presentation. When doing that, we discuss what we discuss what we were going to do and the table of content in the powerpoint. After that we list it down in the poster paper. When we finished with the poster, the groups were told to do little presentation about it then we did the presentation and questioned our classmates about our presentation inside the class to make sure they understood what we were presentating. The other groups also did the same thing, and thankfully i am not asked by my friends. Before we did the presentation Mr. Herry also did some review on the criteria's, and i can answer it correctly. Next time, i will need to discuss the divison of work with my group.

Today, i didn't have the time to go to my instrument class because i need to go to a GPA recognition day ceremony's rehearsal because i have to attend that ceremony. So, i will need to ask my friends what they did today in the instrument class and practice it at home.

Friday, 13 August'10

In theory class, we reviewed what about major scales, that we had learnt last year in grade 9. I did it well because i still remember it and i have my theory lesson from my music school that i attend to. We were told to do C, G, D, A, E major scales and then we discuss it together in class and it was checked. I got perfect from it so i was happy. We were also asked again about our progress for the investigation of pop music, but my group did not gather and didn't had any progress, so for next time i need to discuss more with my groups and do the power point presentation together. Not only we did the major scales but also the chords for C, G, D, A, E major. However, we did not finish it on time so it became my HW. So i will do my chords at home and review it.

While in the instrument class, we all played the C-B major scales with the contrary. It was kind of hard, but i managed it somehow and played quite well. However, i need to improve my A major scales and its contrary. So next time i can play it nicely, i will practice it at home. I was also told to bring a sonatine/sonatina that i want to choose for my next class, so i will bring it for my next class for agreement.

Today is a holiday, our independence day. So, we didn't have any lessons today. And i need to practice my songs at home.

Friday, 20 Aug'10

Today we did our assessment presentation about our genre's researches, which is Pop Music. We were the second group to perform our presentation and did well in tit. We got 7 out of 8. With that mark, we got a plus point because we made our palm cards and one day before our presentation, i asked Daniel, one of my group members to try the slides song in the music classroom. Our content are quite complete, there's the opinions, impact, bibliography, etc. However, we should have putted some more interesting background for our slides and not mixed the sample song while explaining the presentation.

In the instrument class we didn't get much time to practice, so Imez and Anissa did not get their turn to play. We played our song to prepare for the next assessment. I played Haydn, Sonate in G. I was told to play it more smoothly and rich like in the church's to grab the feeling of the song, because i played it too roughly. I need and will practice at home to improve my notes and my tone.

24/08/10, Tuesday

Today in music theory class, we were asked about the progress on our reflection and blog also about the group presentation. Mr. Herry then told us to make and individual report based on out music slide presentation. After that Mr. Herry gave us examples of people music videos and we watched it, and also a worksheet on scales, i can do it but i need to review more because sometimes i forgot the rules. However, i did it quite well.

In practical class, i played Haydn in G, sonata. It was quite okay with the notes. However i need to make it faster and smooth also make sure that i played it in legato, so i am going to practice some more.

27/08/10, Friday

Today Mr. Sadrakh was the one to check our attendance. After that there was a rehearsal going on for our assessment piece. The piano group all played their song but not the other instrument groups, they were representative by one of the classmate in the group. I didn't play it in a good tempo, and the notes are not really legato, I also didn't play the whole piece. I need to practice the song more and count the tempo.

In the instrument class today. I played the c-b scales with the contrary. I played it quite badly because i didn't really remember the sharps and the flats. I also played the song not so fluently with some mistakes. I need to practice it more and make the trinidad longer, practice the piece and the scales some more.

31/08/10, Tuesday

Today we were reviewed about the scales, major seven and dominant seven in theory class. We were given the formula to make major seven and dominant seven, so it is easier to understand. It is also to prepare us for our assessment, we made C-B major scales. It was quite easy for me since i've already learned it before. However i will review some more so i will not forget it. There were also rehearsals for the other instrument groups that haven't performed yet, so i listened to them for them to be prepared for Friday, where we will have our assessment.

In the instrument class I played m Sonate in G by Haydn. The tempo was alright but the notes are sloppy and were quite bad. I need to relax more and smoothern my playing for it to be better. So will practice some more for it to be better.

3/09/10, Friday

Today i did the assessment and it was horrible. I made a lot of mistakes that i shouldn't had. My fingers felt really stiff ad cold, i am not really nervous but for some reason when i did the trill not all the notes were entered and played. I practiced everyday at home and it was alright yesterday, so i was really disappointed in my self. I will try to practice piano more, everyday for one hour, so that my hands would not be stiff like today.

We didn't had our instrument class, due to the assessment. So i will need to practice at home.

7/09/10, Tuesday

Today is our last meeting this term. Today, we reflect our self and gave out comments for our music development workbook and for the teacher to improve more. Mr.Herry also showed us our music assessment last time, and i saw how horrible i played, to remind us and to help us fill in the music development workbook of our reflection. We reflect on what we did in this term, the tasks given, HW, reflections, assessment, our weaknesses and strenghts and what to improve next and the benefits that we got. I did it neatly, fully and with a good understanding. Overall, i think i did my tasks in term 1 quite good, and that i also did the music development workbook neatly. However, i still need to improve myself on my attentiveness in class, my performance to be better and practice the piano everyday, so in my next practical piano assessment i can do better. I got 8.2 which i am already gratefull of having it.

Music Reflection: December'09

1/12/09, Tuesday
Today we learn about the Kodaly signs again and we practice it together. After we get its basics the teacher gave us a new song to learn which is London Bridge. We practice the song with Kodaly sign, with two hands which was quite hard. We practice it again and again with Mr. John and Mr Herry than we did it one by one from do-do. After we gets the notes and the signs and we remember it the teacher called us by pairs to perform it in class. Next time i need to perform it better.
In practical we practice our songs and one scale which was E minor harmonic scale and then when i play my composition he gave me some advice for the ending so it will be more variative. After that we did some hearing quizz in 4 bars and the the teacher, Mr Herry repeated it for 4 times and when we exhange our works to be corrected i got the notes and the beats correctly and i was happy and i feel that i have an improvement but i need to practice more on my hearing skills since i cannot catch the notes quickly.

3 Dec'09, Thurshday.
Today Mr herry checked our HW which was the finales and the development program that we need to do in our holidays, to make sure that everybody have send him the email. I gave my development program earlier so i got and extra mark on it. Then he gave us our theory assesment and i got a full mark which was 40 out of 40 and i was really happy that i didnt do silly mistakes which i likely did. After that Mr Herry told us to do the rehearsal which was started with the Guitar, Violin, Piano and Flute which was decided by playing "gamsuit" so it'll be fair for everyone. I was the 3rd to play in the piano group and because of the time that was not enough so i didnt get to play it which was lucky since i am not really good at playing the scales so i need to practice on the scales much often. Since because it was near the exam we didnt have any practical lessons and was doing just rehearsal. When we rehearse mr John and Mr Hary watched over us, and Mr Herry told us that in the next lesson which was on Thurshday we will gave us our overall score except from our semester exam that will be added after we did the exam.
